Bencze, vines above Lake Balaton
Bencze is on Szent György-hegy near Hegymagas, north-west of Lake Balaton. This volcanic Hungarian landscape is the starting point of the project.
A first plot in 2011
The project began with a small plot on the hill’s southern slope. The vineyard then grew, with particular attention to old Hungarian varieties.
Farming linked to the place
The land has been farmed organically from the start. Biodynamic practices were introduced in 2014. Observing the vines and soil life guides the work.
Spontaneous fermentation
The wines ferment with yeasts naturally present on the grapes. The estate aims to limit cellar intervention. Fining, filtration and sulphur practices need to be checked for each wine and vintage.
Following Hungarian grapes
Furmint introduces a local variety, alongside riesling and other grapes. Aries, Atlas and Várvölgy offer different ways to discover this Balaton vineyard.
