Les Terres Bariolées, Auvergne plot by plot
Claire Freist and Edoardo Veltroni founded Les Terres Bariolées in 2022 in Chalus, south of Issoire. The name reflects the different soils in their plots.
From Burgundy to Chalus
Claire trained in Beaune and Dijon, Edoardo in Pisa. They met while working at Burgundy estates, before settling in Auvergne.
Different soils under one name
Clay, limestone and basalt are found in the vineyard. The original varieties were chardonnay, muscaté chardonnay, gamay and pinot noir. Further planting continues to shape the estate.
The work continues in the cellar
The vines are farmed organically with biodynamic practices. Cellar intervention is limited. Some whites are skin-contact wines, and most wines are bottled without added sulphur when their condition allows.
The estate and Les Vins Bariolés
La Condamine, Les Suquets and Les Chirouzes introduce the plots. Claire and Edoardo also run Les Vins Bariolés, a négociant activity using grapes from other growers. These two origins remain distinct.
